FAIR's mission is to contribute to building a resilient and sustainable AI ecosystem by promoting greater accessibility, equality and fairness in the development and benefits of artificial intelligence.
AI is creating significant new opportunities, but participation in this transformation remains highly unequal. Access to technology, computing infrastructure, knowledge, skills, investment and training varies dramatically between countries, sectors and communities.
As AI becomes more influential, these differences risk developing into deeper and more persistent digital divides.
FAIR exists to help identify, understand and address these inequalities.
We produce research that makes digital gaps visible and measurable. We develop training programmes that expand access to AI knowledge and skills. We support innovation that can broaden participation in technological development. And through policy and advocacy, we encourage institutions and decision-makers to consider accessibility, equality and fairness as essential components of AI development.
We work collaboratively with civil society, journalists, academic researchers, public institutions, technology organisations and other partners.
Our mission is ultimately based on one conviction: AI resilience depends not only on technological strength, but on how widely and fairly that strength is distributed.
Our Vision
FAIR envisions a future in which artificial intelligence develops as a resilient and sustainable global ecosystem whose opportunities and benefits are accessible, equal and fair.
The current AI transformation is characterised by extraordinary innovation, but also significant concentration. Advanced computing resources, leading technologies, investment, specialist knowledge and technical capabilities are concentrated among relatively few companies, institutions and countries.
At the same time, many communities and organisations remain at the margins of the AI transformation.
FAIR believes that such imbalance creates vulnerabilities for the long-term development of AI. A sustainable technological ecosystem cannot depend indefinitely on widening gaps between those who have the resources and capabilities to participate and those who do not.
Our vision is therefore not simply to increase the adoption of artificial intelligence. It is to contribute to an environment in which participation in the AI future becomes broader and more equitable.
We envision an AI ecosystem in which geography, economic resources or institutional capacity do not unnecessarily determine who can access technology, develop relevant skills or benefit from innovation.
Our vision is resilient AI: accessible, equal and fair enough to be sustainable for everyone.
